Bloated, corpulent toads with little black talons, Vilg are slightly more intelligent than an average eloi, but with the cunning and sadistic nature of a morlock. Their warty skins have a waxy, almost leprous quality to them and they inspire nothing so much as loathing in the hearts of those not already tainted by the darkness said to linger on among the dead worlds. Vilg claim to know much about such things. They whisper shuddersome secrets in their raspy little toady-voices. But nothing serious or especially damning is likely to be revealed unless one agrees to feed the vilg. And their appetites are vile indeed.

These toad-things prefer to dine upon the most corrupt and decayed formerly-living matter they can acquire. The more putrescent and rotten the better. There are accounts of vilg devouring still-animated zombies in Ambreton's notorious Black Book of Corruption, and scholars still debate the veracity of claims that certain dead-killer sects have used vilg to torture vampires that they claimed to have captured. Those accounts are most likely simply lurid propaganda aimed at stirring up unrest among the Ignobles.

Vilg are sometimes used by more fastidious ghouls as a kind of disposal for those unspeakable remnants of charnel repasts that they wish to eliminate from their dens.

The poison that a Vilg inflicts upon its victims is a terrible necrotizing corruption that forces a save or else it will cause the victim's flesh to literally putrify until it is either healed, cut off or burned--or the Vilg is killed. Ghouls are immune to this effect, and it only works while the Vilg is still alive; killing the Vilg will cause the poison effect to fade over 1d6 turns.

Vilg are sometimes summoned as familiars by ghouls, goblins, or other unsavory humanoids who are able to stand both the stench of these wretched, warty things, and their gross appetites as well.

There are dark rumors of larger, smarter Vilg-breeds out amidst the deeper catacombs of dead worlds known only to certain ghoul factions.

A vilg can be taken as a familiar. If anyone would want to do such a thing...
