Bonus Maps for The Horrid Caves from The Manor Issue 7

Click to Download
Issue 7 of Tim Short's RPG-Zine The Manor is available via his online store Gothridge Manor Games or at RPGNow, where the pdf is currently discounted to $2.50. A print copy will set you back $4.00 ($4.50 in Canda, $5.00 elsewhere).

Tim managed to pack a lot into just 24 pages. There's a traveling potion-peddler, the Skinwalker as a playable class option, a set of gonzo Arduin-esque magic mirrors, a nifty mini-adventure involving a fire demon, a mind-bending Mind Flayer Haiku, and The Horrid Caves, which is one of our adventures, this time involving a series of caves where a powerful prehuman warlord held court long, long ago. If you haven't checked out The Manor yet, click over to Tim's Gothridge Manor blog and take a look at the various posts tagged The Manor, or better still, just pick an issue at random and download it from RPGNow while they're all discounted to $2.50. We both really enjoyed Issue 6 quite a bit.

We're offering a free set of bonus maps for The Horrid Caves. There is one numbered and one unnumbered map in each of three versions, so you can provide a player's version of the map or re-key the thing, or use the map for another site, as you like.

Free Paper Miniatures (Set Zero)

Click to Download for Free

Have a Set of Free Paper-Miniatures. We hope you have fun with them at the table!

If you're interested, the descriptions/Labyrinth Lord statistics for the Cerebroblob, Ferric Blob, Garganta SlugGloomswallow, Iron Pig, Orb ClusterOrbiculateRaging Blob, ToaderValja, Xal Daemon, and Yelg Froth have all appeared in previous posts. We included a set of links on the back page of the pdf.

Some of these could have benefited from a little more work, but since the original files were lost in the big drive-crash, that's not going to happen. Instead of going back and rebuilding these paper-miniatures, we've opted to start working on a couple of brand new series of paper-miniatures and will have a preview in the next few weeks.

One More Page for Taglar's Tomb

Click to Download
Here is one more page for Taglar's Tomb. We reveal a few more details about the Goblins of the Black Orb, the competing kobold tribes, Toothy-Toads and wyverns, just in case some of this stuff might come in handy at the table.

We also want to say Thank You to all of you who have downloaded Taglar's Tomb (Revised), and especially those of you who have contributed to the cause--that kind of encouragement is greatly appreciated and we will be hoisting a glass or two of our favorite Old Eight Porter at Barley John's one of these nights and toasting you all. Maybe we can get someone to take a photo we can post. That might be fun. Might get me to finally shave off the grognard-beard too...

We're wrapping-up work on the next release, hopefully we'll be able to get it uploaded before the weekend.

Swords & Wizardry: The PDF is going to be available for FREE!

The recent Frog God Games Kickstarter for The Sword of Air has gained over 400+ contributors, so now the fine folks at Frog God Games will make the PDF version of Swords & Wizardry Complete available for FREE--this is the whole she-bang, not some stripped-down art-less text-only thingy, nope--this is the full deal, Erol Otus cover and all. They retain Copyright, etc., but the PDF itself will be free from now on. Once it goes live on the Frog God Games website, we'll update things and provide a link. Very exciting news!

Something Wicked...

We are in the final stages of proofreading a peculiar little grimoire of spells for OD&D / Swords & Wizardry and/or any other OSR-Style RPG that combines science, sorcery and a touch of Lovecraft and Clive Barker. It is a collaborative effort between us and two other bloggers and we're rather pleased to see it finally about to be released upon an unsuspecting public...

Revised Geomorph Series One

We have recently gone ahead and cleaned-up our first series of Geomorphs from the old (defunct) Netherwerks blog. Instead of wasting any more time going back and adding-on edge-tiles, etc. to these geomorphs, we're just going to be done with them once and for all so we can get on with a long overdue brand new set. So, starting today, we'll be uploading the stripped-down old Series One Geomorphs to the Free Stuff folder at BOX once a week as a prelude of sorts to the launch of Series Two. Yep. That's right; we're going to be doing a second series of geomorphs. This time out, based upon feedback from Gibbering Mouther & Tim Shorts in particular, the new Second Series of Geomorphs will include a lot more hand-drawn elements. We have fresh new textures to work with from our last few road trips and we're going to be experimenting with a few different mediums that we think might make things a bit more interesting.

You can get Series One/Set Zero in either vanilla jpeg or minty fresh pdf flavors right now. Series One/Set One will be ready to go next week.

And yes, we will make our Series Two geomorphs available to Dave for his Mapper once we have a full set ready to go. We started stripping-out the grid-lines and all that from this first set with Dave in mind, so we'll make these available as well. Have you checked out Dave's Fundraiser for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America yet?

We also have some geomorphs on-hand that we're finishing up for the Community Geomorph Project.
You'll be seeing a preview of those geomorphs shortly.

Maybe we can get the Zalchis Set of Geomorphs finished before the end of the year...but if not, it'll happen before too much longer...we are making some progress in terms of tackling the backlog of stuff finally...

10 Short Adventures for Mutant Future PDF (2011 OSR Challenge)

Last year, Matt over at the Asshat Paladins blog hosted the 2011 OSR September of Short Adventures Challenge which featured the efforts of over 20 bloggers and generated over 300 adventures.

We did three sets of adventures, ten for Mutant Future, ten for Labyrinth Lord, and ten for Swords & Wizardry (White Box).

It was both a challenge and a lot of fun developing a set of short scenarios using Matt's minimalist 'Get Ready, Get Set, Go!' format.

Revisiting these adventures really brought home how good an idea Matt had in using a hyper-compressed format. It really forced us to focus on things with a sense of immediacy that often gets lost in longer, more convoluted scenarios. There is something magic about this sort of format, and we're in the process of coming up with our own alternative approach that we'll be unveiling shortly. In the meantime, the first Ten Short Adventures (for Mutant Future) that we did as part of the 2011 OSR Challenge have now been revised and compiled into a PDF that you can download for free by either clicking on the cover-image below, or use this link to our Free Stuff folder at BOX. We'll also set-up a widget in the right-hand side-bar, but it'll probably slide around the page a bit for the next couple of days until we find a spot we like, and we'll add a link to the Free Stuff folder on the Downloads page as well.

We plan to eventually revise and re-post the two other sets of our 2011 September Short Adventures in another few weeks.

OSR Conservation Process FAIL

Matthew Schmeer over at Rended Press recently posted a note about the new OSR Conservation Process. Their site is at: http://ocp.no-ip.org

These people are aiming to keep the freely available games and materials free forever. It's a decent goal and we want to show our support, so we recently uploaded two of our free PDFs to their site:

Impressionable Young Shoggoth is available HERE.
The Forgotten Tomb of the Toad People is available HERE.

Free Labyrinth Lord Character Sheet

In the course of doing the mock Character Sheet for Irving the Shoggoth, we realized that it was not just a reasonable facsimile, but with a slight bit of revision this could serve as a fairly serviceable Character Sheet for Labyrinth Lord, so we revised it a bit and have uploaded to the Freebies Folder at BOX and we'll even embed it in this post to make it easier to print or download, just in case anyone else likes it and wants to give a whirl in their game.

If you do use this Character Sheet, let us know how it worked for you.
We'll be doing another Character Sheet for Wermspittle...
