Work-in-Progress: A Few New Geomorphs

So in-between bouts of drawing more monsters and getting some work done on Wermspittle, I've been tinkering around with some sketchy geomorphs, for example...

and...

and...

...all of which are works-in-progress and the final versions will no doubt undergo a few changes or revisions as things move along.

The first sample tile is part of a set that I've been building for Dave's Mapper off and on for a while now. The full set will be simple black and white, but I wanted to experiment a little with some gray tones toward the center of the tile.

The second sample-tile is for a set for what's beneath Wermspittle. The grays were dropped-in willy-nilly in order to test how it works--the final version will have a more coordinated gradation scheme and I may add-in a few more details. I was toying with the notion of converting all of these tiles over to a sepia-esque look, perhaps something like this...

...or not. Once the set is completed, I'll try-out some variations and will post a few more samples here to solicit some feedback.

The third sample-tile is part of a set of four I did while still a bit feverish and were intended for the Community Geomorph Project at the Save Vs Dragon blog. I'm not sure how well they'll fit into that effort, but if they aren't suitable, I'll use them as seed-morphs for building some new maps for something else.

Well, those give you some idea of what sort of geomorphs I have simmering on the back-burner. My main focus has been in getting a stockpile of new monsters drawn-up so that if I do go ahead and set-up a Patreon thingy, I have stuff already done and ready to go before I open it up. The goal for this was to have 500 sketches done before the end of the year and I've broken the 400-mark. I just might make this goal after all, which cheers me up a great deal since I lost quite a bit of productivity-time being sick these last few months. Since I'm feeling better, I'm getting more stuff done and hopefully I can get caught-up on a few projects that have been nagging at me. I'm happy to be making progress again and getting things done.

Oh and speaking of getting things done, I have some aliens coming out in the new OSR Quarterly, and will be sending Tim some critters for The Manor and I think there's another item on my To-Do list that ought to go out later today...so yeah...it feels good to get things done and out. Very good.

Revised Geomorphs: Series1 (All Sets)

Here are links to our first series of Geomorphs, originally released through Netherwerks. This first series was something of an experiment and we learned a few things and received some interesting, and helpful feedback from certain of our readers (Thanks Gus, Tim, Porky and everyone else!)

There will be more Geomorphs coming your way soon!
In the mean-time hopefully some of you may find these handy or useful in your upcoming games.

Series 1/Set Zero is available as either a Jpeg or a PDF via our Free Stuff Folder at BOX.
(The handy widget is on the right.)

Series 1/Set 1 is available as a Jpeg or PDF via BOX.

Series 1/Set 2 is available as a Jpeg or PDF via BOX.
Series 1/Set 3 is now available via BOX as either a Jpeg or a PDF version.

Series 1/Set 4 is also available as either a Jpeg or PDF via BOX.

Series 1/Set 5 is also available in either Jpeg or PDF flavor, via BOX.

So there you go: Series One -- six pages, 36 Geomorphs -- all ready to print out, cut apart and put to use in your next game.

You might also want to take a look at our Cave and Tunnel Hazard tables. We have a few more of those on the way as well...

Revised Geomorph Series One

We have recently gone ahead and cleaned-up our first series of Geomorphs from the old (defunct) Netherwerks blog. Instead of wasting any more time going back and adding-on edge-tiles, etc. to these geomorphs, we're just going to be done with them once and for all so we can get on with a long overdue brand new set. So, starting today, we'll be uploading the stripped-down old Series One Geomorphs to the Free Stuff folder at BOX once a week as a prelude of sorts to the launch of Series Two. Yep. That's right; we're going to be doing a second series of geomorphs. This time out, based upon feedback from Gibbering Mouther & Tim Shorts in particular, the new Second Series of Geomorphs will include a lot more hand-drawn elements. We have fresh new textures to work with from our last few road trips and we're going to be experimenting with a few different mediums that we think might make things a bit more interesting.

You can get Series One/Set Zero in either vanilla jpeg or minty fresh pdf flavors right now. Series One/Set One will be ready to go next week.

And yes, we will make our Series Two geomorphs available to Dave for his Mapper once we have a full set ready to go. We started stripping-out the grid-lines and all that from this first set with Dave in mind, so we'll make these available as well. Have you checked out Dave's Fundraiser for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America yet?

We also have some geomorphs on-hand that we're finishing up for the Community Geomorph Project.
You'll be seeing a preview of those geomorphs shortly.

Maybe we can get the Zalchis Set of Geomorphs finished before the end of the year...but if not, it'll happen before too much longer...we are making some progress in terms of tackling the backlog of stuff finally...

Geomorphs (Update on Revised Series1)

We're assembling all of our previous Geomorphs into one master set in PDF form, as well as stripping them down and cutting them out so that they'll work better for Dave's Mapper. This has been more time-consuming than we originally counted on, but it's nearing completion, and we've learned a lot from this process so that when we start Series Two...we hopefully won't make as many mistakes as last time...

Live and learn.

Once we wrap-up the revisions to this first series of geomorphs, we'll move on to a fresh new series that will dovetail into a special exploration environment project we've been building for quite a while now.

But first, we need to get the old Geomorphs revised and out into the world where they can be put to good use.

As part of this revision effort, we're doing a brand-new set of Edges and Corners to add to each of the existing sets in the first series. We're debating whether to do one Edge and two Corners or two Edges and one Corner per sheet, with a full set of additional edges and corners thrown in on their own sheets. We're also revisiting the lay-out and we'd like to hear what you think of this approach...of course this sample lacks the Edges and Corners, but they'd run down the center. We'll update things once we have the lay-out nailed down once and for all.

Let us know what you think.
