LITHUS Sector Map (Rogue Space)

Welcome to the Dark Frontier of the Lithus Sector. Beginning next Tuesday, we'll be exploring this sector in a series of weekly installments. There will also be special Lithus Sector materials featured in upcoming issues of Rogue Transmissions.

Lithus is the Primary or Core World of this Sector and we've already posted about the Megasharks, 12 Scenario Seeds for the Megasharks and our recent free adventure Quick Score on Xudriss II takes place in orbit around PANJ (Lithus 04.05). The Hartley Bequest is fairly active in this region, as are the Achernarians.

Sphere III, Nitochron II and such places as Galdrus III that we've mentioned previously are located in one of the Peripheral Sectors. We'll have more details on those regions as well, including information on at least one such area where forces representing a particular stellar hegemony have been rumored to be active...

  1. Interesting indeed! I would love to see more on this. I think there is a lot of potential when you not only create the politics and cultures of a planet, but also of a sector of star systems and planets. As in things get way more interesting when players have to think of the effects on a sector as apposed to the effects on just the planet.
That's a good looking map. I look forward to reading more about Lithus.

    1. Finally, things have worked-out and we're moving forward with the Lithus Sector series. The Intro to Lithus (Sector/System/Planet) is now available and we'll be expanding on that as the series goes forward.

We agree. Once you've painted a few good, broad strokes as to the general shape of things Out There, it gives you as the GM and the players something to build on or to riff off of--it's a lot like the bass line in a Ramones song, or whomever you prefer. Once you know that there are Bad Guys and places where order is breaking down, and opportunities to be had, adventures almost write themselves.

Sector-level politics is one way to establish a faction as something more than just a one-off or something disposable; crossing an agent of an interstellar consortium in one system could lead to repercussions over in another solar system, or produce consequences felt in yet another system. It can grow, organically and over time, through play, making the player's actions and activities integral to the unfolding of history and ongoing development of events. But at the same time, you can steer clear of the obvious big event stuff and deliberately aim for the marginal areas and backwaters so as to avoid any 'Imperial entanglements,' etc. So even if the big backdrop is entirely something the players seek to avoid or evade, it still is useful.

  2. The map is gorgeous, and good fun in a way that very much suits Rogue Space. There's plenty of mystery. I like the bleed a lot too, for the suggestion the whole image shows part of a console or pad and that there's more of an external world framing it. I agree with M. completely and I'm also looking forward to seeing how you develop it.

    1. Thank you. We're going to make it available as a poster, just in case anyone else wants a copy. Glad you liked the framing effect. It was fun to get it to line-up with the divider. There will be a ton of new terrain types to cope starting right in the Lithus system. We think that you'll get a kick out of The Sarabande. The Reef-Builders are also going to be making an appearance soon...and the Big Dumb Object table is something we've been holding off on for a while, until certain other things were ready to roll out...

    1. Thanks Trey. We're working on the black-and-white version that will also show the surrounding sectors for Fenway to include in an upcoming Rogue Transmissions.

  4. Amazingly wonderful. If the Space Cantoners fly off the map, I now know where they may well just end up.

    1. Thank you sir! Like I said above, we're making a poster version of the map available. We'd love to hear about any adventures you run using the map--have you seen the Xudriss II adventure? It takes place in hex (04.05). More is on the way!
